LEA’s Halloween Personality Portraits
“Not every little girl dreams in pink.”
This session was a special one — because it was for our own daughter, Lea.
She had just turned one, that wonderful milestone where you start to see who they’re becoming: “their spark”, “their quirks”, “their little opinions” about everything.
As her parents, we knew her first-year milestone session had to reflect exactly who she is, not just how she looks. And who she is right now… is a runner.
If you’ve ever tried to take pictures of a toddler who would rather escape the set than sit still, you know exactly what we mean.
Customized outfit
Her entire outfit was handmade by Jenny, a little starry black dress with a tiny witch hat that barely stayed on her head. We wanted something that felt like her: bold, playful and a little mischievous.
Lea is not the frilly “princess in pink” type. Growing up with two older brothers, she is always been drawn to their toys, their adventures, and even their colors. She loves strong tones, not pastels and honestly, we love that about her.
So instead of a beautiful pink gown, we went for a mini black tulle dress instead. It’s Halloween-inspired, yes, but it’s really her and she loves it.
Photographing a “Runner”
If you’re a parent of a “runner,” you know what it’s like! They don’t stop moving, even when you just want one calm photo. But that’s the best part, isn’t it?
At Luminari, we don’t force kids to sit perfectly still or look right at the camera. We love the energy, the chaos, and the honesty that comes with it. Sometimes the best photos happen right in the middle of the action, “a quick laugh”, “a curious turn”, “a spark of mischief” in their eyes.
That’s exactly what happened with Lea. She ran, she twirled, she laughed and we got every bit of her in those frames.
Why This Stage Matters
Around one year old, their personalities start to take shape and it’s incredible to watch. They suddenly have opinions, favorite things, and a confidence that’s all their own.
That’s why we love to create Personality Portraits so much. They’re not about posing or matching outfits; they’re about celebrating exactly who they are, right now, whether that’s wild, shy, silly, or strong.
“because movement tells a story all on its own.”
If your little one never sits still, welcome to the club! Lea is proof that a “runner” can still have the most beautiful, expressive portraits. Let’s capture the energy, the motion, and the laughter, the things that make this stage so unforgettable.
