What to Expect at Your First Studio Portrait Session
If it’s your very first time doing a studio portrait session, this post is for you.
Are you juggling outfits, snacks, naps, and just hoping everyone cooperates? We’ve been there, and that’s exactly why we designed our sessions to feel calm, easy, and actually enjoyable.
Here’s a little peek at what you can expect when you walk through our doors.
Before Your Session
Once your session is booked, we’ll send a quick prep guide your way, including outfit tips, parking info, and a few reminders to make your day easier.
Here are a few things we always recommend:
Pick outfits that feel comfortable and natural. If your little one hates scratchy collars, please skip them.
Arrive at least 10 minutes early so the kids can look around and get used to the space.
Bring their favorite snack(s) or small toy(s), happy kids and stress-free parents come first.
We’ll also check in with you about your style preferences before your shoot. Our sessions lean toward a classic, timeless look:

However, we always want each session to feel personal to you, so feel free to chat with us about your family’s colors, personality, and story. Our goal is for your portraits to feel like you, not like a preset or a trend.
When You Arrive
Our studio is cozy and calm, designed to help everyone, especially little ones, feel comfortable the moment they arrive. We keep things simple and welcoming, without that cold, equipment-heavy vibe you might picture when you think of a studio.
When we’re photographing kids, we usually start with a few minutes of play or light conversation. We call it our “warm-up time.” During that part, we take a few casual shots to help them get used to the lights, the space, and us.
Parents, feel free to join in! You’re always welcome to help us interact with your child. We’ll gently guide you on what to do and how to bring out those natural expressions.
If it’s a family session, no worries. We’ll guide everyone on where to stand or sit and help you connect naturally so your portraits feel relaxed, comfortable, and true to you.

During the Session
Expect plenty of movement, laughter, and small moments. We don’t rush. Whether it’s a milestone, personality portrait, or full family session, we go at your family’s pace. If your child needs a snack or a short break, we pause. We’d rather have a relaxed, happy child than a rushed session.
We’ll even show you a few photos on the back of the camera along the way. Seeing those little previews always helps everyone relax and get excited about the final gallery.
After the Session
Within a week, you’ll receive a proofing gallery where you can choose your favorite images for editing and printing. Once your final selections are complete, we’ll hand-edit each image to perfection — enhancing light, tone, and color while keeping everything natural and true-to-life.
Your final gallery is delivered digitally, and we’ll help you design wall art, albums, or prints if you’d like something tangible for your home.
